I started a new diet on Tuesday. My doctor said 1600 calories a day, and here's some appetite suppressant pills to help get you going. I'm also exercising at least 30 minutes a day every day.

So far I've lost 9 pounds. WooHoo!!!

I just hope I can keep up with it and the depression doesn't smack me down again.

There are a LOT of juvenile critters around here. We have a group of 4 robins, a group of 4 flickers, and I'm not sure how many squirrels. There's also a bunch of chickadees. They are sooooo CUTE!!! :)

Last week I had an interview at a school in Loveland. It went really well, and the principal was apparently impressed by me. But they didn't hire me. It would have been a nice job, too.

I guess I'm not too upset about it, though. I'd really expected that they would hire someone else, so it wasn't a shock or anything. I guess I've just gotta trust Netjer to help me find something better. *shrug*

Uggh.

I got a last-minute-hire job in Granby. I found a perfect cabin to rent...except that it had no internet. Period. Of course this site was blocked at the school, so I really haven't had a chance to post or read or anything.

I can't help feeling like I was hired as a last resort, like they never really planned to keep me next year. That really doesn't help the depression any. I ended up sitting in my classroom on my plan hour telling myself how worthless I was. I gave up all of every nice-weather weekend for those people and none of it mattered. I wasted the only opportunity to enjoy living in a recreation hotspot in the name of doing the best job possible, and it meant nothing.

How could I possibly do better? Why would anyone else bother to hire me? What makes me think I'll ever be good enough at anything to justify my existance?

I need a hug.

Oy. There's nothing quite like being stuck on ignore. I should know better than to try to call Student Financial Services. Typing with one hand is really weird.

Anyway, I'm planning on student teaching in Leadville. Of course, when you student teach, you really can't have a job, so I have to get a student loan. I'm trying to explore options, and emailed SFS to see if they had any suggestions. I got a canned answer as a reply, and they didn't even address half my questions. So I have to call them. I've been on hold for about 15 minutes, so far.

I finally got to talk to a person. I learned what I needed to know, now I just gotta get going on it.

Ah, well, I guess that's about all I have to say, for today.

Ok, here are some pictures of our yard....

Behind cut for space )

We're currently under a Blizzard Watch for tomorrow through Friday, and expecting about 8 more inches.

Yay! Snow! :)

Anyone who's saw the National news last night, or even CNN, this morning, may be wondering if I'm snowed in. :) The answer is yeah, pretty much.

We kept up with the shovelling all day yesterday, but gave up when it got dark. There is currently about 11-12 inches on our driveway. The official total for Ft. Collins is 23 inches.

There are snow overhangs off everyone's roofs, and big drifts everywhere. Our big spruce tree acted as a snow fence, so there's a really big drift at the end of our driveway. I don't think we're going anywhere, today.

I finally get my winter back! *happy puppy dance*

I'll try to post pictures later, if anyone wants to see them. ;)

Why does "rise-over-run" work to find the slope of a line, but not for the hypotenuse of every right triangle?

Maybe because the line is understood to keep going, while the hypotenuse is confined to the triangle....

Oh, I see, now.

"Rise over run" is the tangent of the angle from horizontal.

Ok, I get it. :)

Weird question........

We females have the "tall, dark, and handsom" phrase...do males have a comparable phrase relating to females? If so, what is it?

Just curious. ;)

I'm still here, really. I finally found a job, and I think it will be good. I've been keeping pretty busy, lately, so I haven't been on the computer much. Not that I've developed a life, per se, I'm just working on a lot of projects. :)

Later, all.

Is there anything more beautiful, in and of itself, than a snowflake? And to have a bunch of them, all falling in harmony, dancing their graceful dance to Gravity's music!

I'm soooooo behind on Friend's list, it isn't funny. Between looking for a job, arguing with morons at CSU, and doing my company's taxes, I haven't had time to do much of anything.

If I've missed anything interesting, let me know.

I hate taxes, I really do. Not that that's news. I really need to take an accounting class.

Speaking of classes, I'm probably going to have to take an extra sememster at CSU. They require so many stupid classes that I can't imagine anyone graduating in only 4 years. Grr.

Ok, enough rambling for now.

Does anyone have any idea what an unopened, never-been-played Frank Sinatra 33 LP vinyl record might be worth? I tried e-Bay for ideas, but none of those were unopened.

Thanx. :)

Oh, and in case I don't post again soon..........

Happy Holidays!!

Yesterday was so much fun! We went up to an area near Red Feather Lakes to find and cut our X-mas tree. My dad used to do that when he was a kid, but I'd never done it. When Dad and his family went, they had to hike for hours just to find a tree of the correct size, so he was expecting to have to do the same. When we got there, though, there were more trees than any of us imagined. Huge patches of perfectly sized trees were available for cutting. Every size from 2 foot tall table trees to 8 foot tall lovelies. The trunk diameter size limit was 6 inches...not even the 8 footers were that big.

Before we got up there, I asked Wesir to help us find an appropriate tree. We wandered around for a long time before we finally found one we all agreed on. It's about 6 to 7 feet tall. We're going to cut about a foot off the bottom for a Yule log.

The Forest Service said that if any branches fall off, we should take them too. On the way out of the cutting area, we saw a bunch of boughs that someone had cut off his tree and left on the side of the road. We took them to put in the fireplace.

This is going to be a fun X-mas. :)

In every discussion I've had with Christians since leaving that religion, they have always asked me some variant of this question, "What was it that made you leave Christianity?" I've never liked being answered that type of question because there hasn't been just one thing that did it, so I couldn't really answer the question.

Tonight, I have figured it out (as well as how to word it). I can now express the One Thing that made me leave the Christian religion.

My illusion of the Bible as the "Only True Word of God" was shattered, and I was able to see beyond it.

Now I also find myself realizing why it's so difficult to get Christians to understand my point of view. If they can't be pulled out of that book, they won't be able to see from my point of view. It's a big Universe out here, and some people are afraid to leave the comfort of a revealed religion. It's easier to be fed than it is to go hunting.

Well, the snow only lasted about 20 minutes, and none of it stuck. The clouds disappeared about 30 min after I posted, and the sky has been a perfect blue all day.

Ahh, Colorado! :)
